Hello everyone! My name is Gonzalo García Díaz, and I’m excited to share my final report for the WP Credits course.
During this course, I contributed to the WordPress Polyglots team by translating strings for the Magazine Booster theme. This report summarizes my contributions, the challenges I faced, the resources I used, and the skills I gained throughout the experience.
Contributing to WordPress has been a great opportunity to learn more about open-source collaboration while helping improve accessibility and usability for Spanish-speaking users.
Teams and Projects I Contributed To
I contributed exclusively to the WordPress Polyglots Team.
My main focus was translating strings for the Magazine Booster theme into Spanish. The goal of these contributions was to improve localization quality and help make the theme easier to use for the Spanish-speaking WordPress community.
Throughout the project, I translated approximately 831 strings related to:
- Theme customization options
- Navigation settings
- Typography controls
- Layout and sidebar settings
- Premium feature descriptions
- WooCommerce settings
- Frontpage modules and widgets
- Animations and visual effects
Learning Resources
To get started with the contribution process, I used the following resources:
- WordPress Polyglots Handbook
- GlotPress translation platform
- WordPress localization guidelines
These resources helped me understand translation standards, terminology consistency, and how the WordPress translation workflow operates.
Challenges and Solutions
One of the main challenges I faced was translating technical terms and interface strings that included words or concepts I was not familiar with.
Some strings contained advanced customization terminology related to themes, animations, layouts, and WordPress-specific features. To solve this, I:
- Reviewed the Polyglots Handbook
- Compared similar translations already approved in WordPress
- Researched unfamiliar technical vocabulary
- Focused on maintaining consistency across translations
Another challenge was preserving natural Spanish phrasing while still respecting the original meaning of the English strings. I learned to balance literal translation with usability and readability for end users.
My Contributions
My primary contribution was translating approximately 831 strings for the Magazine Booster theme.
The translated strings included:
- Theme customization settings
- Header and footer options
- Typography and color controls
- WooCommerce archive settings
- Frontpage module descriptions
- Premium feature explanations
- Widget and slider configuration texts
I also created multiple progress posts documenting my translation work throughout the WP Credits course.
Key Learnings from the WP Credits Course
The WP Credits course taught me several important lessons about contributing to open-source projects.

Personal Reflections and Next Steps
Contributing to WordPress through the Polyglots team has been a very positive experience.
What I enjoyed most was seeing how every translated string directly improves the experience for Spanish-speaking users. I also found it interesting to learn how much work and coordination is involved in maintaining multilingual support in WordPress themes.
One of the most surprising aspects was how detailed and careful translation work needs to be in order to keep the user experience clear and consistent.
At the moment, I have not fully decided what my next steps will be, but this experience has given me a much better understanding of open-source collaboration and WordPress contributions.
